BTRY has been selected for funding under the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator, securing €2.2 million in non-dilutive grant funding to accelerate the industrialization of our thin-film solid-state battery technology.
Dübendorf (Switzerland) 16.06.2026
The EIC Accelerator is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most competitive funding programs for deep-tech startups. It supports breakthrough innovations with the potential to create new markets and strengthen Europe’s technological leadership. In the latest funding round, only 38 companies from across Europe were selected after a highly rigorous evaluation process, with an overall success rate of less than 5%.
Founded as a spin-off from ETH Zürich and Empa, BTRY is developing and manufacturing next-generation thin-film solid-state batteries for IoT, MedTech, and consumer electronics applications. Our vision is to enable applications previously limited by energy storage. BTRY builds ultra-thin solid-state batteries for small devices where conventional batteries hit limits in form factor, safety, temperature range and manufacturability, with an initial focus on industrial, IoT, MedTech, and wearable applications.
Today’s electronics manufacturers often face a difficult trade-off between energy storage and power delivery, frequently requiring both batteries and supercapacitors. BTRY’s technology eliminates this compromise by delivering both capabilities in a single solution.
A key differentiator of BTRY is our solvent-free vacuum coating process, which leverages established roll-to-roll manufacturing equipment from the semiconductor industry. This approach enables scalable and cost-effective production while supporting Europe’s ambitions for sustainable and resilient battery manufacturing.
The EIC Accelerator grant will support the next phase of BTRY’s growth as we advance our technology towards large-scale manufacturing. The funding will help us further industrialize our production process, bringing our technology to market, and lay the foundation for Europe’s first thin-film solid-state battery factory capable of producing millions of batteries annually.
This achievement reflects the dedication by the entire BTRY team, as well as the support of our customers, partners, investors, and research collaborators. We are grateful for the trust placed in us by the European Innovation Council and excited to contribute to strengthening Europe’s position in advanced battery manufacturing and energy storage innovation.
The future of batteries is thinner, safer, faster, and more sustainable!
About EIC: The European Innovation Council (EIC) has been established under the EU Horizon Europe programme. It has a budget of €10.1 billion to support game changing innovations throughout the lifecycle from early stage research, to proof of concept, technology transfer, and the financing and scale up of start-ups and SMEs.
